This is a bit off topic for this site but the fluking inside the bay is really good right now. A lot better than the bass fishing is. I guess if you are looking for stripers then you probably ought to be fishing after dark or extremely early in the morning.
We switched over to fluking last week and have boated over 75 fish so far with a lot of them from four to eight pounds and we havnen't had to go any farther than the bridges. There has also been some nice sea bass as well.
Water temps in the bay are in the high 70;s, with 83 degree water in my cove at East Greenwich.
Just read about a porpoise being sited at Dutch Island this week and I heard about three cobia being caught just off of Newport. Even Clammer got a Trigger Fish inside the bay. The next thing you know we'll be seeing tarpon, redfish and baracuda up here.
That would be something new to learn for sure. Hopefully we'll get to do some shark fishing once the hurricane passes early this week. The sharks are all over the place out there this season. Now they will pull your string like nothing else.
Hopefully the bass fishing will improve in the fall. The RESERVE MY BOOK section is back up and running also.

Thanks fior the report Jim
Mike has it right; a 25lb fluke or black sea bass would tow a 40lb striper all over the ocean.

Tarpon usually end up in the Newport Fish traps every other year or so, and some bass guys got some Cobia the year all the bluefin came in tight...

Fished 83deg water in block canyon Thursday. 11 yellowfin, and more mahi than I can count.

good luck sharkin Jim!

Mike, we were 95 miles south of Newport.
left at 2am, lines in a 6am, back by 8pm.
(29ft twin turbo diesel)

Shark/Bluefin (when the show) less than 20mi south of Beavertail Mike.

As long as we're releasing everything but mako or thresher, I'm always up for a ride Mike :D I've done a lot of sharking in the past.

Mike;
later in the summer you'll hear guys finding them in tight. Keep ears open. If you hear, start looking around the lobster buoys, floating wood etc.. screw lures... we like small strips of squid and circle hooks. gets em every time...

what we were catching are small schools of aggressive 3-5lb'ers hanging under lobster gear on the 100fathom curve.

we make a point to stop trolling for an hour or two in the afternoon, break up the bleary-eyed stare from watching the spreader bars and birds dance at 7.8kt....

ML.
Best of luck bud.
ML Jr's posts are always great. Seems like a good kid!

Lets hope they are wrong Mike.
need to do a quick marina survey north of your boat in W. Cove. I was really hoping to have that done before the end of the week (vacation this weekend in Maine)

After next week, the r/v is headed south to Misquamicut for August.
happy times on the south shore!

Hows the fluking?
I tried calling on the radio for 'Mike the Clammer' but no answer.... does your sled have a name?

Clammer: You are one sick puppy. What does that have to do with fishing??? Only you would ask a doctor's assistant to go home with you to see if it still worked correctly. By the way I got those fluke balls for you. they are in my boat so when I see you I'll give them too you.
Fluked the same area the other day where I told you I was with a kid and his father, they did pretty good. Why guys are running so far south is beyond me, they are going by an awful lot of nice fish.
By the way who's your doctor, I need my rear end checked again too.
