What just happpened at Frenchman's Reef can easily happen at any place either shore or from a boat. In a boat, putting five, six or more boats in one area will usually kill that spot in a hurry. There are tons of examples of this, especially this past season.
Last year a guy posted on one site how good the fishing was at Pine Hill. The next day there were 58 BOATS there and no one was catching a friggin thing. Guys complained that the posted message, who ever he was was lying about the good fishing. I talked with one guy who was there and asked him how did he think he was going to catch fish with 58 boats going back and forth over their head??
In the spring, someone turned the Providence River into a mad house when he posted he was catching fish there. It got so bad that for the first time in my memory DEM assigned three enforcement boats as well as a Providence Police boat to control the mayhem.
I read a good post on another site regarding this. "If you don't earn it or work for it, you just don't give a shit what happens to it."
Last year I was critisized for not giving up all my areas at a local fishing club. IT WAS EXPECTED THAT I WOULD TELL ALL, GIVE ALL, SAY ALL, DO ALL, REGARDING WHERE, WHEN AND HOW I FISH CERTAIN AREAS.
Yeah right. So the next day I could have 25 or more boats fishing right along side of me.
Last year also, Billy and I had an area we were fishing and someone saw us. Two days later there were so many boats there you couldn't catch a jellyfish if you had to.
This is the give-me, tell-me, show-me, society we now live in. the unfortunate thing is it will likely get worse as none of these clowns will see what its doing to fishing.
What's the point? Being a hero? Being the best guy on the block? Who cares?
Do they think its going to bring them riches beyond belief? I can tell you first hand it won't. There are no riches in this business or sport to be had. It's one of the fantacy's that has prevailed for decades in this sport.
A good friend of mine summed it up best one time. 'Want to make a lot of money in this sport, start with 2-million dollars and you'll wind up with ten grand in a very short time."
Your only as good as the last fish that you caught. And no one cares about yesterday. That's a fact.
