This may be a silly question, but I was wondering if there are particular scenarios, water depths, areas, etc.. that play out better if you are using eels or plugs. I haven't gotten into the lure scene yet and have always thrown eels. I'm just trying to figure out if certain situations would produce better with plugs than eels. I'm mostly thinking of white water, shallow water or rocky areas. Thanks.
I can't think of too many situations where a plug is going to beat a live eel or even a dead one for that matter. I suppose there may be an instant here and there but over all, nothing beats "fresh meat" regardless of who believes so. I've done it both ways, in all circumstances and conditions, tides, winds, slow, hot, and the eel will almost always win hands down. I've had clients using them during the day and have done very good with them. While one or two other guys were catching schoolies, he was catching fish in the teens or twenties from the same location. In my opinion, even though I fish an awful lot of lures, plastics and flies, eels, pogies, squid, worms etc, are hard to be. Lures only make it easier to have with you but not much beats any type of fresh meat.
