It's a sure sign of spring as not only have the bass arrived but the internet postings are back as well, and this year more than ever before.
After a couple of quite days with just a few boats, one or two brain-dead anglers, just had to post that they caught fish as well as where they caught them. I supposed this was to fuel their ego of being successful anglers and to garnish their 15-minutes of fame such as it is.
The first post drew about 30 boats, the second one drew about 50 or more boats. The morning bite which had gone on for hours prior to these rants ended in short order.
I'm guessing its because they must figure, if they cant' get back there the next day, then why not mess and screw up everyone eles's day by letting the entire planet know that they caught fish.
No one cares if you caught any fish or not. No one cares what you used, how much line you had out, what the birds were doing, how many lures you tried, how fast you were going or any other sorted details. Plese spare the rest of us the needless words and back slapping.
The fish have arrived finally and they aren't all that hard to find or to catch. All it takes is a bit of work, and some searching around and you'll likely come across them. If you can't find them or catch them at this time of the season then you really need to consider taking up another sport.
As of right now there aren't any menhaden that I know of. There are bluefish however and have been for over a week. I don't know what that means having blues already and no pogies. But every year is different from the last. I've heard that there are pogies to the south and pogies to the north, why there aren't any here is anybodies guess. However, we did hear that the pogies WERE here in various places but I haven't seen any nor do I know anyone who's seen any. So you have to take what is being said with caution.
Most of the bait right now is small sea herring and some silversides.
Do yourself a favor and if you want to become a better fisherman just go out and fish. And if you want to catch a lot of fish, don't tell anyone where or how you did it. Not only will it get fished out faster, you'll have tons of company TRYING to catch more. I've had areas where the fish have held for weeks on end, day after day. No one else goes there becasue I don't tell anyone, maybe with the exception of Billy. We therefore catch fish for days sometimes weeks on end because no one is hammering them on a daily basis.
If you learn to keep your mouth shut, you'll wind up catching a lot more fish.
