Received word of the first striped bass showing up. The fish were reported coming from the Narrow River in Narragansett, RI. Of coares, these fish could have been hold-overs and not new, fresh-run fish but it' still a good sign. The first menhaden have also been reported as being here. A photographer taking pictures of a Osprey the other day, photographed the bird with a dead fish in its mouth. The fish it swooped down to grab was a menhaden taken in the Jamestown area near Beavertail. Although it sounds like its a bit early for menhaden to be showing, who knows anymore. Let's just hope that this is one of thousands of menhaden that will be here this spring and summer for the stripers and bluefish to eat. I saw a boat on Easter Sunday trolling the Providence River. What he was trolling for is anyone's guess but I'd have to guess he was looking for some fresh run striped bass. Didn't see him catch any but I could only watch him for about 10-minutes or so. He could have hooked up before or after that I have no idea. The herring are moving into the rivers now as well. Gilbert Stuart had quite a few herring in the river leading to the pond last week. The river isn't as flooded as it was and it appears that the herring are now moving up the river a lot faster than last week or the week before.
